History
Once home to the Alibamu tribe of Native Americans, the 1800s brought huge amounts of trade and production to Montgomery, and later the city even became the capital of the state of Alabama. After the start of the American Civil War, the city was announced as the capitol of the Confederacy States, though this was moved to Richmond, VA during the war itself. The city escaped much of the damage prevalent during the war and afterwards became a hub of industry. The 1960s brought the civil rights movement home to Montgomery, where Dr. Martin Luther King fought for equal rights and Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat. Recent advancements in modernization have made Montgomery a prosperous and beautiful city, making it a popular destination for visitors.
